Firmware & Registration

Firmware & Registration

The Firmware & Registration page allows administrators to manage the firmware running on all supported devices, including FortiGate, FortiAP, FortiSwitch, and FortiExtender devices. You can upgrade individual devices or all devices. Supports Security Fabric and non-Security Fabric devices.

From the Firmware & Registration page, administrators can also authorize, deauthorize, and register devices.

The Firmware & Registration page displays a summary of devices that includes:

  • Total number of devices and how many devices of each type

  • Upgrade status of all devices

  • Device name

  • Device status

  • Registration status

  • Firmware version and maturity level

  • Upgrade status

Note

If the Firmware & General Updates (FMWR) license is invalid or the FortiGate appliance has reached End of Support (EOS), the FortiGate will enforce an automatic update to the latest patch of the current minor version. A valid FMWR license is required to update to the next minor or major version; without it, the FortiGate cannot be upgraded to these versions. See Automatic firmware upgrades for FortiGate appliances with invalid support contracts or that have reached EOES.

From the Firmware & Registration page, you can:

Upgrade all

Click Upgrade all and choose whether to upgrade all devices, extension devices, FortiAPs, FortiSwitches, or FortiExtenders. Available for Security Fabric and non-Security Fabric devices.

See Upgrading all devices.

Upgrade

Select one or more FortiGate, FortiAP, FortiSwitch, or FortiExtender devices to display and click the Upgrade button. Available for Security Fabric and non-Security Fabric devices.

See Upgrading individual devices.

Register

Select one or more devices to display and click the Register button. Use to register selected devices to FortiCare. See Registering devices.

The FortiGate, and then its service contract, must be registered to have full access to Fortinet Customer Service and Support, and FortiGuard services. The FortiGate can be registered in either the FortiGate GUI or the FortiCloud support portal. The service contract can be registered from the FortiCloud support portal.

See also Registering FortiGate.

Authorization

Select one or more devices to display and click the Authorization or Deauthorize buttons. Use to authorize, deauthorize, or reject selected devices.

See Authorizing devices.

Reports

After a successful upgrade, view the firmware upgrade report. It compares statistics and configurations before and after a firewall upgrade.

See Viewing firmware upgrade reports.

Before upgrading FortiGate firmware, it is recommended to learn about firmware updates, firmware maturity levels, Special Technical Support (STS) firmware, and selected availability (SA) versions. See About firmware installations and Firmware labels.
