Installing FortiAnalyzer-BigData Hosts with VMware ESXi
Once the Security Event Manager Controller is fully installed, the rest of the FortiAnalyzer-BigData host VMs can be network booted by the Controller with the following steps.
To install FortiAnalyzer-BigData-VM Hosts with VMware ESXi:
- Log in to VMware ESXi server.
- In the Navigator sidebar, right-click Host and select Create/Register VM.
The New Virtual Machine wizard displays.
- Using the New Virtual Machine wizard, configure a VM with the same network configuration as the Controller:
- Deployment options
- Select a port group to map to the VMs network.
Select the same Internal network and External network as the Controller.
- Click Next.
- Select a port group to map to the VMs network.

- Deployment options
- Once the VM is created, power on the VM.
This will allow the Security Event Manager Controller to install software on the host.
- Assign the Blade ID.
- To let Security Event Manager Controller assign Blade ID on the host automatically:
- Wait for the installation to complete before launching another one. The blade ID and IP for the host will be automatically assigned by Security Event Manager Controller.
- To manually assign host blade ID through bootloader:
- Upon entering the first reboot after powering up VM for installation, press the Tab key within 10 seconds of the following prompt to display the action options.
- Type
bootloader
to enter the bootloader's main page. - Select option 5). Set Blade ID and specify the desired value.
The Blade ID is updated.
- After the Blade ID is specified, select option 0). Reboot to reboot the host and wait for installation to complete.
- To let Security Event Manager Controller assign Blade ID on the host automatically:
- Repeat the above steps to power on the rest of the VMs.
A FortiAnalyzer-BigData cluster requires at least 6 VMs including the Controller.
