Modes of operation

Fortinet 4.0.3 can be managed from FortiGate, FortiExtender Cloud, or locally independent of FortiGate or Fortinet Cloud. When deployed in the Cloud, Fortinet can be centrally managed from Fortinet Cloud; when managed by FortiGate, the device searches for a nearby FortiGate to transition to Connected UTM mode; when managed locally, it functions as a router providing services to other devices. For more information, see the Fortinet Cloud Admin Guide and the Fortinet 4.0 Admin Guide.
