Configuring PTP transparent-clock mode

Use the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) transparent-clock mode to measure the overall path delay for packets in a network to improve the time precision. There are two transparent-clock modes:

• End-to-end measures the path delay for the entire path
• Peer-to-peer measures the path delay between each pair of nodes

Use the following steps to configure PTP transparent-clock mode:

1. Configure the global PTP settings.
   By default, PTP is disabled.
2. Enable the PTP policy.
   By default, the PTP policy is enabled.
3. Apply the PTP policy to a port.
   NOTE: PTP policies are hidden on virtual ports
   

To configure the global PTP settings:

config switch-controller ptp settings

set mode {disable | transparent-e2e | transparent-p2p}

end

To enable the PTP policy:

config switch-controller ptp policy

edit {default | <policy_name>}

set status {enable | disable}

To apply the PTP policy to a port:

config switch-controller managed-switch

edit <FortiSwitch_serial_number>

set ptp-policy {default | <policy_name>}
