Create VM with the FortiDeceptor VHD
Create a virtual machine and specify the details of the image, disk and network.
To create an image the VHD:
- In the portal menu, click Images.
- Click Create.
- Configure the following settings and click Review + Create.
Subscription
Select a subscription from the dropdown.
Resource group
Select a resource group from the dropdown.
OS type Linux VM generation Gen1 Storage blog https://.../xxxcontainer/fdc.azure.vhd Account type Standard SSD Host caching Read/write - Click Create.
- After the deployment is complete, click Go to resource.
- Click Create VM.
- In the Basics tab, configure the following settings:
Subscription
Select a subscription from the dropdown.
Resource group Select the group that contains the VHD image. Virtual machine name Enter a name for the virtual machine. Images Select the FortiDeceptor image from the list. The image is uploaded for you when you create the VM from the image. Size Select the image size from the list.
Different sizes support different Max NICs.

Authentication type
Select SSH public key or Password.
Select inbound ports
Select HTTPS (443), SSH (22).
License type
Select Other.
- Click Disks tab.
- Scroll down to Data disks for <vm_name > and click Create and attach a new disk.
- Configure the following settings and click OK.
Name Enter a name for the disk. Source type Select None (empty disk). Size Select a size greater than 50 GiB. Encryption type Select (Default) Encryption at-rest with a platform-managed key. Enable shared disk Select No. Delete disk with VM Enable.
- Click the Networking tab and configure the following settings:
Subnet Select the subnet. Select inbound ports Select HTTPS (443), SSH (22).
- (Optional) Click the Management tab update the diagnostics settings.
- Click Review + Create to create the virtual machine.
You may encounter an OS Provisioning error during deployment. This error can be ignored.
- Attach more interfaces.
- Go to Home > Virtual machines, and click the VM to open it.
- Click Stop.
- Go to Settings > Networking and open the virtual machine you created.
- Click Attach network interfaces and the select the interface you want to attach. You must configure a minimum of two NICs. You can attach up to six interfaces.
- Associate the public IP to Port1.
- Go to Home and open the Network Interface
- Go to Settings > IP configurations.
- Click Add. The Add IP configuration pane opens.
- Under Public IP address select Associate. Binding the cloud client with static public IP address is required.
- Start the VM.
- Go to Home and click the VM to open it.
- Click Start.
- Go to Home > Virtual machines. Select your VM from the list.
- Go to Support + troubleshooting > Serial console to access the VM with the Serial Console.
