Establishing Occupancy Control

Establishing Occupancy Control

COVID-19 requires a new adaptation to the way in which you monitor the security of your building. New laws and safety requirements have placed pressure on businesses to closely monitor the amount of people currently within their building. Thankfully, FortiCentral offers Occupancy Control, which assists you in maintaining the capacity limits of your building set by social distancing rules.

This feature is based on the object detection analytics module. Individuals are detected and counted over multiple configured cameras using deep learning algorithms. The counts of each camera displays in a historical line graph. The red areas indicate when the occupancy limit has been exceeded .

This recipe will cover the following information:

Configuring Occupancy Control

To configure Occupancy Control

  1. Place the camera you wish to monitor individuals entering and leaving a building in a pane.
  2. Select the setting button in the pane and select Analytics.
  3. Configure the settings as desired and select Apply.
  4. Select the settings button in a new pane.
  5. Select the Occupancy Manger.
  6. Select the burger menu at the bottom of the Occupancy Manager.

  7. Configure the following settings and then select Apply:
  8. Setting

    Description

    Enabled

Selects which cameras to use to monitor occupancy. While selecting one camera is ideal for small locations, it is best to have multiple cameras enabled in areas where there is high traffic, like a checkout station. The Occupancy Control solution ensures hotspots are detected and traffic is reduced, which is better than controlling the total number of occupants.

    Show

    Displays the occupancy chart.

    Threshold

Sets the number of individuals allowed in an area.

    Avg

A filter setting that determines how quickly the system reacts to changing occupancy counts.

    People/Cars/Animals/Motion

Since Occupancy control is based on object detection it is possible other objects may be counted besides people. Select the type of object to count.

Using the Concierge application

The concierge application works in combination with the Occupancy Manager to display a sequence of orders to individuals waiting to enter the premises, such as a "Stop", "Wait", or "Proceed" message, based on whether the occupancy threshold configured in the Occupancy Control settings has been exceeded in the Occupancy Manager. Using the concierge application ensures your premise does not exceed the maximum allowed population limit.

To enable the Concierge application

  1. Select the settings button in a pane.
  2. Select Open Concierge.

If neither of the individual camera thresholds or the Total count is exceeded, the Concierge cycles the green Enter message, followed by the yellow Wait message to pace the number of individuals entering the premise. Once a threshold is exceeded, the red Stop message displays, along with a countdown till the Enter message displays or another Stop cycle.

Additionally, the layout of the FortiCentral screen running on the entrance tablets or monitors can be customized to show branding and advertisement in the form of other media elements. To add new media files go to the Media section in Settings.
