Accessing FortiGate-VMX

You can access the FortiGate-VMX using a browser or SSH.

GUI

The Graphic User Interface (GUI) of the FortiGate-VMX Service Manager is web-based. Before it can be used, the MGMT port must be configured with an IP address and netmask. The default gateway and DNS must also be set up.

  1. Open a browser.
  2. In the URL field, enter the IP address assigned to the MGMT port.
  3. At the login page, enter your credentials into the Name and Password fields.
  4. Select Login.
The default username on a factory fresh system is "admin". There is no default password. Leave the field blank. As always, a password should be set up as soon as possible.

SSH

You can open a console window and access the FortiGate-VMX Server Manager through SSH by using the command:

ssh admin@<IP_address>:<port#>

The port# is not needed if you haven't changed the default port of 22 on your installation.
