Upgrading the FortiVoice-VM firmware

The FortiVoice image available on Azure Marketplace may not include the latest firmware available for FortiVoice. Use this procedure to upgrade the firmware of your FortiVoice-VM and make sure that you have the latest features, functionality, and fixes available.

Procedure steps
  1. Identify the firmware version that is running on the FortiVoice-VM:
    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and review the Firmware version row.
    3. Take note of the firmware version and build number.
  2. Identify the latest software release that is available for the FortiVoice firmware:
    1. Go to the Fortinet Support website.
    2. Log in to your existing account or register for an account.
    3. Select Download > Firmware Images.
    4. In Select Product, select FortiVoiceEnterprise.
    5. In the Download tab, navigate to the 6.0.5 folder.
    6. Review the list to locate FVE-VMAZ firmware version . For example, 0214 is the build number in FVE_VMAZ-64-v60-build0214-FORTINET.out.
    7. Compare the firmware version and build number with the firmware version that is running on the FortiVoice-VM.
    8. If the build number of the firmware version running on the FortiVoice-VM matches the one on the Fortinet website, then you do not need to perform an upgrade. You have completed this procedure.
    9. If the build number of the firmware version running on the FortiVoice-VM is an earlier build, then you need to prepare for an upgrade:
      1. Review the FortiVoice Phone System 6.0.5 Release Notes. This document includes the most current upgrade information such as supported upgrade paths and may contain details that were unavailable at the time this procedure was created.
      2. Caution

        Make sure to download the following firmware image file:

        FVE_VMAZ-64-v60-build<build_number>-FORTINET.out

         

        For an upgrade, do NOT use the following image file:

        FVE_VMAZ-64-v60-build<build_number>-FORTINET.out.azure.zip file.

      3. In the Download tab, navigate to the 6.0.5 folder to locate the FVE_VMAZ-64-v60-build<build_number>-FORTINET.out file.
      4. To download the firmware image file to your computer, click HTTPS, and then click OK.
  3. Backup the configuration file:
    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to System > Maintenance.
    2. In the Backup area, select System configuration.
    3. Click Backup.
    4. Save the file on your computer and take note of the location where you save the file.
  4. Upgrade the firmware:
    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and the Firmware version row.
    3. Click Update.
    4. Locate the firmware file and then upload that file.

      Your web browser uploads the firmware file to the FortiVoice-VM.

    5.  To confirm, click Yes.

      The FortiVoice-VM installs the firmware and restarts.

    6. To make sure that the FortiVoice-VM web-based manager reloads correctly and displays all changes, clear the cache of your web browser and restart it.
  5. Verify that the firmware is successfully installed:
    1. Go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and review the Firmware version row.
    3. Make sure that the firmware version is the one that you upgraded to.

    You have completed this procedure and the deployment of a FortiVoice-VM on a virtual server instance in the cloud with Microsoft Azure.

Upgrading the FortiVoice-VM firmware

    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and review the Firmware version row.
    3. Take note of the firmware version and build number.
  2. Identify the latest software release that is available for the FortiVoice firmware:
    1. Go to the Fortinet Support website.
    2. Log in to your existing account or register for an account.
    3. Select Download > Firmware Images.
    4. In Select Product, select FortiVoiceEnterprise.
    5. In the Download tab, navigate to the 6.0.5 folder.
    6. Review the list to locate FVE-VMAZ firmware version . For example, 0214 is the build number in FVE_VMAZ-64-v60-build0214-FORTINET.out.
    7. Compare the firmware version and build number with the firmware version that is running on the FortiVoice-VM.
    8. If the build number of the firmware version running on the FortiVoice-VM matches the one on the Fortinet website, then you do not need to perform an upgrade. You have completed this procedure.
    9. If the build number of the firmware version running on the FortiVoice-VM is an earlier build, then you need to prepare for an upgrade:

      4. To download the firmware image file to your computer, click HTTPS, and then click OK.
  3. Backup the configuration file:
    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to System > Maintenance.
    2. In the Backup area, select System configuration.
    3. Click Backup.
    4. Save the file on your computer and take note of the location where you save the file.
  4. Upgrade the firmware:
    1. In the web-based manager of the FortiVoice-VM, go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and the Firmware version row.
    3. Click Update.
    4. Locate the firmware file and then upload that file.

      Your web browser uploads the firmware file to the FortiVoice-VM.

    5.  To confirm, click Yes.

      The FortiVoice-VM installs the firmware and restarts.

    6. To make sure that the FortiVoice-VM web-based manager reloads correctly and displays all changes, clear the cache of your web browser and restart it.
  5. Verify that the firmware is successfully installed:
    1. Go to Dashboard > Status.
    2. In the Status tab, go to the System Information widget and review the Firmware version row.
    3. Make sure that the firmware version is the one that you upgraded to.
