Adding a DID number

Add a direct inward dialing (DID) number to allow users to call external numbers in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) or public land mobile network (PLMN).

Note

To activate the trunk service, you need at least one DID number with an emergency zone.

You can add more DID numbers with or without adding the emergency zone information.

Before you begin

Make sure you complete Logging in to FortiVoice Cloud.

To add a DID number

  1. In FortiVoice Cloud, go to Trunks > DID Management.
  2. Click + Add a DID.

  3. In the Add a new DID dialog, complete the following fields:

    Area and field

    Description

    Mandatory

    DID Basic Information

    No

    Description

    Add a description for this DID number.

    Display name

    Add a descriptive name for this DID.

    The DID display name is the caller ID that displays on the person’s phone that you are calling.

    To configure the display name as the caller ID, you need to set this DID as the main DID. You do this by ensuring the radio button in the Main Number column for this DID number is selected.

    DID Numbers

    Note

    Search for available DID numbers by either location or area code.

    Yes

    Search by location

    Update the following fields:

    • Country: For Canada, select CA. For the United States, select US.
    • State/Province: Select the state or province.
    • City/Rate center: Select the city or rate center.
    • Number: Select a phone number. When the selected city/rate center is used up, numbers become available from an adjacent rate center.

    Search by area code

    Click Search by area code and enter the area code.

    Emergency Zone

    Add emergency zone details:

    • Make sure that Add an emergency zone for this DID is selected.
    • Enter details in the emergency zone fields.
      • Name: Make sure you enter the correct name. You cannot change the name after you submit the form.
      • Comment: Optionally, add a description.
      • Address: Add a street address.
      • City: Add a city.
      • Country: For Canada, select CA. For the United States, select US.
      • State/Province: Select a state or province, as applicable.
      • ZIP code/Postal code: Add a ZIP code or postal code, as applicable.
    • Click Validate Emergency Zone.
    • Review and select the suggested address.

    Yes

  4. Click Submit.
  5. Review the message box.

  6. Click OK.

  7. To monitor the task in progress, go to the Message Center by clicking in the top right.

  8. Select the Trunk Tasks module and review the details. When you are done, close the Message Center by clicking X in the top right.

  9. In DID Management, your new DID number is displayed.
    1. If the DID number is not listed right away, refresh the list by clicking .
    2. To synchronize the trunk service status and fix any missing DID numbers, click .

  10. Verify the trunk service status:
    1. Click Dashboard.
    2. Make sure that Trunk Service shows as Active. To show the latest status, click refresh .

  11. Continue with Deploying FortiVoice Cloud.
