Endpoint Agent

An Endpoint Agent (DEM Agent) is a local monitoring utility that is deployed directly on a Windows or MacOS instance. The Agent allows you to monitor your Windows machine’s health, performance, and DEM (Digital Experience Monitoring) metrics to ensure that end-user experience is optimized. The available metrics are detailed in the following sections.

The Endpoint Agent can also be used to trigger CounterMeasures.

To add a Windows Endpoint Agent, see Add a Windows Endpoint FortiMonitor Agent or Add a Windows Endpoint Panopta Agent.

To add a MacOS Endpoint Agent, see Add a MacOS Endpoint Agent.

Usage scenarios

Remote site availability and performance

You can use Endpoint DEM to make sure that a remote location, like a store or restaurant, has good network availability, and more importantly that the users at the store can get to the key applications that they rely on. You can start at a high level with a view of all the stores, then use FortiMonitor’s custom dashboards to view the individual stores.

Collected server information

The Agent also supports collection of WiFi and wired network connection details. (signal strength, SSID, wired or wireless)

Available metrics

In addition to standard health metrics and Windows PerfMon metrics, the following metrics are also supported:

  • Network quality checks

    • Jitter

    • Latency

    • MOS

    • Packet loss

  • Synthetic checks

    • HTTP/HTTPS transactions (including SSL/TLS)

    • Traceroutes

  • Download speed

  • WiFi Rx (Reception) Rate

  • WiFi Tx (Transmission) Rate

  • WiFi Signal Strength

  • Windows Endpoint Agent health metrics
