Compound metrics
Often, such as with clusters and HA configurations, you're not concerned with the degradation of a single instance or metric. You may be concerned, however, when a given portion of the cluster begins to experience issues. That's where compound metrics come in handy. They allow you to create incidents when a certain percentage of a collection of metric thresholds is experiencing issues. Note that metrics must have configured thresholds in order to be monitored by a compound metric.
Configuration
To create a compound metric, perform the following steps:
-
From the navigation menu, click Add. The Infrastructure and Resource Catalog will be displayed.
-
Locate the Compound Metric card then click Select.
-
Click +Add at the top of the control panel to open the Infrastructure Catalog. From there, select Compound Metric.
You will be redirected to the top-level-group page, where the Create Compound Metric pane will open.
In the General section of the slide-out pane, you can name the compound metric, select which instance group it will reside in, and add tags.
In the Services, Thresholds, and Alerts section, you will define what the compound metric is actually comprised of.

Metric Selection Type |
Method for selecting metric that comprise the Compound Metric. Metric Tag - Any: use metrics which have at least one of the provided tags to comprise the Compound Metric Metric Tag - All: use metrics which have all of the provided tags to comprise the Compound Metric By Metric: select metrics individually that will comprise the Compound Metric |

Threshold % |
The % of metric thresholds that are required to be crossed before creating an incident. For instance, if all of the selected metric thresholds must be crossed, you'd enter 100. |
