Exim

Exim is a mail transfer agent and the Exim plugin allows you to monitor the length of your Exim queue. A large queue tells you that your server is not handling requests fast enough to keep up with demand.

To add an Exim agent resource to your server first see Add FortiMonitor Agent checks if you have not already.

Control Panel Configuration

First select Exim from the Monitoring catalog.

You'll be taken to a page with the pre-existing metrics for Exim are listed, as well as an +Add Monitoring button option at the top right. A drawer will slide open from the right with the options available with this plugin.

Queue Depth

depth

The depth of this queue is the number that this resource returns, please take this into account if you choose to change your Alert Thresholds.

If Exim is not an option in the dropdown, then you may need to add the panopta-agent user to the group that owns Exim on your server. If that does not work, then you can change the queue_list_requires_admin config entry to allow non-admin users to view the queue as described in this article.

If you would like to inspect the Exim plugin in more detail you can find the python script for it in /usr/lib/panopta-agent/plugins/exim.py.
