VMware

VMware

The VMware integration allows you to collect metrics from your VMware clusters (if vCenter is being utilized), hosts, and datastores. FortiMonitor can perform automatic discovery and monitoring of these components within your VMware deployment.

Make sure that you have the latest version of the OnSight vCollector. To check your OnSight’s version, see Manage and configure your OnSight vCollector.

Control panel configuration

To start monitoring your VMware instances, perform the following steps:

VMware user account creation

Before configuring the VMware integration in the control panel, create a read-only user for FortiMonitor in your VMware management tool, for example, vCenter Server Appliance. Use these credentials to set up your VMware integration.

  1. From the navigation menu, click Add. The Infrastructure and Resource Catalog is displayed.

  2. Select VMware from the Infrastructure section of the catalog. If you do not see this option, please contact our support team to have it enabled.

  3. Connect your VMware environment to FortiMonitor by entering your VMware connection information.

The fields are described in the following table:

Field

Description

OnSight Collector

Select an OnSight vCollector instance to use as a monitoring location for this integration.

VMware Username

The username of your FortiMonitor VMware user account.

VMware Password

The password of your FortiMonitor VMware user account.

IP Address

The IP address or host name of your VMware vCenter.

Port

The port of your VMware Center (Usually Port 443).

Import Name

Enter the name to be associated with this integration.

4. Select Finish Installation.

After installation, and every 15 minutes from there on, all of your VMware instances will be automatically discovered and imported to FortiMonitor. All decommissioned instances will be removed from FortiMonitor as well. You can see all the discovered instances in the instance tree.

Instance Tree

If you open the instance tree on the left side of the control panel, you will see that your VMware resources are nested under a grouped named after your VMware vCenter instance.

Infrastructure Map and Dashboards

VMware instances will appear in the Infrastructure Maps and Dashboards similar to any other monitored instance.
