Upgrading to an add-on license

After using a FortiManager VM with a trial license, you can upgrade by installing an add-on license. You can use the FortiManager GUI to install an add-on license.

Before you can install an add-on license, you must perform the following tasks:

• Install a FortiManager VM and activate a trial license. See Activating a free trial of FortiManager VM.
• Purchase the add-on license from a licensed reseller and receive an email with the product registration code.

After you receive the email with the registration code, use this topic to perform the following actions:

• Register the add-on license with FortiCloud by using the registration code.

• Register the support contract with FortiCloud by using the registration code.
• Download the license key from FortiCloud.
• Install the license key by using the FortiManager GUI.

Before you can apply a support contract to FortiManageryou must convert your trial VM into a production instance by applying an add-on license.

After the add-on license is installed to FortiManager VM, the System Settings > License Information widget updates. Beside the Management option, the maximum number of managed devices changes from 3 for the trial license to 3 for the trial license plus the maximum number supported by the add-on license. In the following example, the FMG-VM-10-UG license was installed, and the maximum number of managed devices changed to 13 (3 + 10).

To register an add-on license and download a license key:

1. Register the support contract and the add-on license:
   1. Go to the Fortinet Technical Support site (https://support.fortinet.com/), and log in by using your FortiCloud credentials.
   2. Go to Asset Management > Dashboard > Register Now.
   3. In the Registration Code box, enter the registration code, and click Next.

2. Specify the IP address for the FortiManager VM:
   1. In Asset Management, select the product. The product details are displayed.
   2. In the Product Information widget, click the Edit icon to edit product details.
   3. In the Description box, type a description.
   4. In the IP Address box, enter the static IP address configured on one of the interfaces of the FortiManager-VM.
   5. Click Save.
      
3. In the License and Key widget, click the Get the License File link. The license is downloaded.

To install an add-on license:

1. Log in to FortiManager, and go to System Settings > Dashboard.
2. In the License Information widget, beside the VM License option, click the Add License button.

   The Add License dialog box is displayed.

   

3. Complete the following options, and click OK:
   1. In the Account ID/Email box, type the email for your FortiCloud account.
   2. In the Password box, type the password for your FortiCloud account.
   3. In the Registration Code box, enter the contract registration code for the add-on license.

   The License Agreement is displayed.

   

4. Accept the license agreement:
   1. Read the license agreement.
   2. Select the I have read and accept the terms in the License Agreement checkbox.
   3. Click OK.

   The Restart Device dialog box is displayed.

   

5. Click Restart Now to apply the license.

   FortiManager restarts, and the license is applied.

6. Go to System Settings > Dashboard > License Information widget.

   The VM License option displays the name of the license.
