Heatmap View
FortiIPAM allows users to reserve sets of IP ranges for FortiGate interface to conduct auto assignment of IP Ranges. Heatmap View offers an intuitive way to create and manage subnet ranges allocated for FortiGate interface.
When looking inside the Heatmap View, the IP ranges are grouped by subnets in IPv4 Class A, B, and C. Inside each class, there consisted of subnets where each has 24 bits or /24 network suffix by default, meaning each block(subnet) represents 256 IP addresses. Here is the IPv4 class specification.
FortiIPAM Private IPv4 Class specification
Class Name | Subnet Range | Number of IPs |
---|---|---|
IPv4 Class A | 10.0.0.0/24- 10.255.255.255.0/24 | 65,536 |
IPv4 Class B | 172.16.0.0/24 - 172.31.255.0/24 | 4,096 |
IPv4 Class C | 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.255.0/24 | 256 |
The following table defines the subnet status being used on the Heatmap View.
Heatmap Subnet Status
Subnet Status | Description |
---|---|
Available | By default, all addresses in defined groups are considered as "Available" until they are changed to "Allocated" or "Conflict status". In FortiIPAM, available subnets are indicated with a gray color code. |
Allocated | "Allocated" status indicates the subnet that is currently in-use. In FortiIPAM, allocated subnets are indicated with a blue color code in Heatmap View. Allocated subnet will have a source code either as FGT or User in List View. |
Conflict | "Conflict" status indicates the subnet has at least two allocated source. In FortiIPAM, conflict subnets are indicated with a yellow color code. |
Selected | Selected status means reservation for FortiGate auto IP address allocation, subnet requests from FortiGate interface will be fulfilled by allocating free subnets from the reservation pool. Multiple subnet selection is supported from the Heatmap View. |
There are two ways to reserve IP range, you can use either one of them to reserve IP range for FortiGate interface.
