Device Blueprints
API folder: Foundation / Device Blueprints |
The final element in our project foundation is the Device Blueprint.
It is a “recipe” for creation of Model Devices. It defines what Provisioning Templates and which Policy Package to assign to them. It also defines to which Device Group(s) to add them, and so on. This allows faster creation of Model Devices and even allows you to create them in bulk.
A separate Device Blueprint is created for each device platform and, potentially, for each type of site, if it requires a different set of elements to be assigned to it.
To create the Device Blueprint interactively:
-
Go to Device Manager > Device & Groups, and click the drop-down arrow near Add Device and select Device Blueprint:
-
Click Create New to create a new Device Blueprint named Edge-West-Silver:
-
Select the correct FortiGate platform.
-
Select the Device Group(s).
-
Assign the Provisioning Templates. Usually you will select one of the Template Groups created earlier rather than individual Provisioning Templates.
-
Assign a Policy Package.
-
Configure any other desired options.
-
For a FortiGate-VM, make sure you set the Port Provisioning value, specifying how many physical interfaces should be generated on the Model Device. This parameter is meaningless (and therefore not available) for physical appliances. |
In our example project, we will create the following five Device Blueprints:
