Creating a single Model Device
To create a Model Device interactively:

In Device Manager, click Add Device > Add Model Device:

Fill in the following details:

Description
Name
Device name (e.g. hostname).
Link Device By
Chosen onboarding method. Fill in either Serial Number or Pre-shared Key.
Use Device Blueprint
Enable this option and select the right Device Blueprint.
When staging a FortiGate-VM, fill in the Port Provisioning value, specifying how many physical interfaces should be generated on the Model Device. This parameter is meaningless (and therefore not available) for physical appliances.

Click Edit Variable Mapping and set the necessary variables. The following screenshot illustrates the variables mandatory for site1-1 in our example project:

Click Next to complete the Model Device creation.
The new Model Device will have a list of Provisioning Templates automatically assigned to it based on the Device Group (which, was automatically assigned by the Device Blueprint):
