Managing the Detectors

You can manage FortiDevice Detectors from the host or from the Detectors page.

Managing the Detectors from the host

From the host where the Detector is installed, you can do the following:

Starting the Detector

To start the Detector on Linux:

sudo service fsdetector start

To start the Detector on Windows:

net start fsdetector

To start the Detector on MacOS:

Launchctr start com.fortinet.fsdetector

Upgrading the Detector

To upgrade the Detector, use the installation procedure in Installing the Detector.

Stopping the Detector

To stop the Detector on Linux:

sudo service fsdetector stop

To stop the Detector on Windows:

net stop fsdetector

To stop the Detector on MacOS:

Launchctr stop com.fortinet.fsdetector

Uninstalling the Detector

To uninstall the Detector on Linux:

cd /opt/fortidevice/detector/

sudo ./FortiDevice-uninstaller

To uninstall the Detector on Windows:
  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Fortinet\FortiDevice\Detector.

  2. Right-click FortiDevice-uninstaller.exe and select Run as administrator.

To uninstall the Detector on MacOS:

cd /opt/fortidevice/detector/

sudo ./FortiDevice-uninstaller

Managing the Detectors from the Detectors page

After you install FortiDevice Detectors, you can manage your Detectors from the Detectors page in your FortiDevice web console. Each Detector is listed in a separate row with its version number and build number.

Each row shows the following:

  • Organization

  • Detector status (offline or online)

  • Detector name

  • Internal IP addresses that will be scanned on the host

  • Which sites are scanned by the Detector

  • External IP address used to connect to the FortiDevice cloud server

  • Detector version

  • Host operating system

  • Host CPU type

  • Any tags

  • Whether the system hardware requirements are met

  • How many scans can be run with the Detector at the same time

  • Whether Chrome is installed to access a web service (for example, HTTP 80 or HTTPS 443) URL and store the response as an HTML file

  • Time and date of last scan

  • How long the Detector has been online or offline.

  • When the Detector was installed

The Detectors page allows you to do the following:

Changing the column display

At the top of the Detectors page, you can use the Columns dropdown list to select which columns to display or to reset the columns to the default view.

Performing a search

To perform a search on the contents of the Detectors page:
  1. Click in the Search/Query field.

  2. Select which category to search within.

  3. Select = for an exact match or select Like for a partial match.

  4. Enter one or more items to search for. Separate multiple items with a comma.

  5. Click APPLY.

  6. If you want to repeat this search later, click SAVE QUERY.

    The Existing Query tab contains saved searches.

Using the row menu

On the Detectors page, each Detector row has a vertical ellipsis at the left end.

Click the vertical ellipsis to select the following actions:

  • View Detail—The Detector Details page is displayed with information about the IP addresses to scan, the IP address used to connect to the FortiDevice cloud server, memory usage, CPU usage, which sites are scanned, how many scans can be run at the same time, tags, and scans performed.

  • Delete—Uninstall the Detector.

  • Upgrade—Upgrade the Detector.

  • Restart—Restart the Detector.

  • Stop—Stop the Detector.

  • Diagnose—You can perform a diagnosis on an online Detector. FortiDevice displays a message about the location of the detailed debugging report at the bottom of the Detectors page.

Using the BULK ACTIONS menu

On the Detectors page, use the BULK ACTIONS menu to delete, upgrade, restart, stop, or diagnose multiple Detectors at the same time.

To use the BULK ACTIONS menu:
  1. Select two or more rows on the Detectors page.

  2. From the BULK ACTIONS menu, select Delete, Upgrade, Restart, Stop, or Diagnose.
