Asset and portal permissions

The folder structure in the Asset Management (AM) portal mirrors the Asset Permissions folders when you create a user or a group.

Asset folders

Master users can create a hierarchical folder structure in the My Assets view of the Asset Management portal. Once the structure is defined, you can use this structure to organize your devices.

For information, see the Asset Management Administration Guide > Organizing assets.

The asset folder structure is displayed in the Asset Permissions dropdown of the User Permissions page. Use these folders to assign users and permissions to the devices in the folder.

Assigning users to asset folders

You can assign an individual user or a user group to a folder. A user can only belong to one group at a time. Users in a group will inherit all the permissions from the group, otherwise the user will have their own permissions. When a user logs into a portal, they will only see the devices that are assigned to them.

In the following image, members of the Admins user group, are assigned to the devices in My Assets > FortiAnalyzer VM > Burnaby.

The following image shows the same folder structure in Asset Management. When group members log into the Asset Management portal, they will only see the FortiClient EMS.

Portal permissions

Portal permissions grant or deny access to a cloud portal. A user can have Admin, Read/Only, and Read/Write permissions. Additional permissions will vary depending on the portal.
